Ítalo is an internationally seasoned educator and researcher whose specialty lies in the scientific exploration of Out-of-Body Experiences (OBEs) and related Consciousness phenomena. From 2004 to 2018 he served as General Coordinator of the European Research Campus of the International Academy of Consciousness in Estremoz, Portugal, designing and overseeing more than a decade of in-person and online programs devoted to OBE. During that time he lectured and led practicums across Portugal, Spain, England, the Netherlands, Germany, the United States, and Brazil, training thousands of students—from lay experiencers to graduate-level professionals—in rigorous self-report protocols, cognitive-psychology frameworks, and ethical guidelines for OBE research.

Ítalo’s academic craftsmanship extends beyond the classroom. As publications editor and a two-time scientific-committee referee for international awards (2012, 2015), he evaluated peer-review manuscripts and monographs on non-ordinary states, helping to elevate methodological standards in a field often marked by anecdote. He also curated and chaired symposia, congresses, and campus conferences, bringing together neuroscientists, psychologists, and experiential practitioners to cross-pollinate empirical findings with first-person data.

Since 2019, he has translated that expertise into modern distance-learning environments as a professor and content developer for UniBrasil, where he authors handouts, slide decks, assessments, and multimedia supports, integrating his practice into the most important protocols in clinical psychology.
