3-D Infra-Red EEG Scanner
SC-LAB uses an infrared 3-D head scanner to digitise each participant’s scalp geometry and accurately localise fiducial landmarks and electrode positions—an accuracy that source-imaging studies show is critical, because even small sensor mis-registrations can shift or weaken reconstructed brain sources. By co-registering the 3-D electrode map with each participant’s anatomical MRI, we build subject-specific head models that substantially improve EEG source localisation and cross-modal alignment (EEG/MRI). The same 3-D/MRI coordinate framework can also be used to target and document tES electrode montages with higher anatomical precision—supporting model-informed stimulation placement, improved reproducibility across sessions, and cleaner interpretation of stimulation effects.
